Homeschool Wednesday: Meetup

Whenever you are doing something out of the norm — and homeschooling is still that — it is good to find other people who are doing the same and connect with them. A great place to do that is our portfolio company Meetup. So when I looked today I was thrilled to find this Homeschool New York City meetup. I was even more thrilled to see who had joined it just days before: Caterina Fake and Jyri Engeström. I am not sure how much time either of them will be spending in New York but seeing people from the tech community here is wonderful.

In addition to having a community for support there is also a practical goal of organizing joint activities for kids. It is not critical at all that the kids be the same age, in fact putting kids of different ages together on an activity is one of the key advantages of homeschooling. There is a much healthier age dynamic taking place than in schools with older kids taking responsibility for younger ones.

So please help us get the word out about the Homeschool New York City meetup. I will post here when a meetup day has been scheduled. We are also open to suggestions for joining other groups — so if you are aware of an active one please point us in the right direction.
