# A Powerful Reminder from the Sky

Very short post today as I ran out of time in the morning. There was a [meteor strike in Russia](http://www.nature.com/news/russian-meteor-largest-in-a-century-1.12438) that [apparently injured over 1,000 people](http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/02/15/meteorite-streaks-across-russian-urals_n_2691904.html). This is a powerful reminder that we should be spending way more on scanning the skies for objects that might hit us and also [looking for signs of intelligent life](http://continuations.com/post/4984260777/funding-setis-antenna-operations) elsewhere. I have written before that [black swan risks](http://continuations.com/post/36888776/black-swan-philanthropy) are an area where more philanthropists should be more active as governments will almost certainly underfund.
