Philosophy Mondays: Human-AI Collaboration
Today's Philosophy Monday is an important interlude. I want to reveal that I have not been writing the posts in this series entirely by myself. Instead I have been working with Claude, not just for the graphic illustrations, but also for the text. My method has been to write a rough draft and then ask Claude for improvement suggestions. I will expand this collaboration to other intelligences going forward, including open source models such as Llama and DeepSeek. I will also explore other moda...

Web3/Crypto: Why Bother?
One thing that keeps surprising me is how quite a few people see absolutely nothing redeeming in web3 (née crypto). Maybe this is their genuine belief. Maybe it is a reaction to the extreme boosterism of some proponents who present web3 as bringing about a libertarian nirvana. From early on I have tried to provide a more rounded perspective, pointing to both the good and the bad that can come from it as in my talks at the Blockstack Summits. Today, however, I want to attempt to provide a coge...

If a picture is a thousand words, then a video is a thousand pictures. Our brains seem built for extracting a huge amount of information from the shortest clips (and even animated gifs). Prior to smartphones capturing video was sort of a pain but now there is a Cambrian explosion of new recordings. This leads us to expect video in more and more places, whether that’s Instagram or a news article.
This change in expectation over time will affect all sorts of online services, whether that’s recruiting or dating or product reviews. We will come to expect video. As it turns out though, creating a video recording experience is hard because of differences in formats and capabilities. Susan and Oliver found this out when they built Ziggeo.
So to make it easier for others, they are releasing Ziggeo’s video recording, transcoding and playback capabilities as an API. They are currently looking for folks to who want early access as part of their closed beta. So if you are interested in adding video recording and playback to your service, please reach out to oliver@ziggeo.com.
