One of my favorite New York City conferences is back after taking a 1-year hiatus. [GEL'13](http://gelconference.com/) will be on from April 17-19 with Thursday, April 18th being the main day for presentations. Fittingly, this year’s theme is “Back to Life” and GEL is taking place in a much smaller venue than before (so [get your tickets](http://gel2013.eventbrite.com/) soon as they will sell out, also: early bird ends this coming Monday).

What makes GEL so special is that [Mark Hurst](http://goodexperience.com/) who organizes the conference always brings together a wonderfully diverse and thought provoking group of [speakers](http://gelconference.com/speakers.html). And Mark tends to be ahead of the curve. For instance, [Sal Khan](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salman_Khan_\(educator\)) spoke at GEL in 2010 when [Khan Academy](https://www.khanacademy.org/) was still [subsisting](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khan_Academy) on a bit of online advertising (btw, Sal’s TED talk wasn’t until a year later). Add to that a fun set of [activities and workshops](http://gelconference.com/agenda.html) throughout New York and you get a unique experience.

Yesterday was not only [pi day](http://continuations.com/post/45342749237/happy-pi-day) but als [Susan](https://twitter.com/susandanziger)’s birthday. And as one of her birthday presents she had asked for a GEL ticket. I was very happy to oblige!
