# Leaving Las Vegas (and Coming Back Soon)

Writing this on a flight back from Vegas where [Susan](http://twitter.com/susandanziger) and I just attended Day 1 of the [Women 2.0](http://women2.com/) conference – I will write a longer blog post about that when not crammed into an economy class seat on Delta. The trip was another reminder of my love-hate relationship with Vegas. It is quintessentially American and condenses its best and worst.

It was built by gangsters and used to be run by them – now they have gone corporate. There is fantastic entertainment starting with the Cirque du Soleil shows. It is probably the least sustainable city (in the US) – huge fountains in front of the Bellagio in the desert. It appears soul sucking for many people working there, yet many of visitors are having a great time.

And then there is the latest entry in the love column: Tony Hsieh’s ultra ambitious [downtown project](http://downtownproject.com/) which I first wrote about in the [middle of last year](http://continuations.com/post/25020194756/cities-venture-for-america-and-the-downtown-project). Unfortunately we did not make it down there but Tony gave a great update at the conference. The progress sounds amazing and so I suspect I will be coming back to Vegas soon to check it out in person.

What do you love and/or hate about Vegas?
