Philosophy Mondays: Human-AI Collaboration
Today's Philosophy Monday is an important interlude. I want to reveal that I have not been writing the posts in this series entirely by myself. Instead I have been working with Claude, not just for the graphic illustrations, but also for the text. My method has been to write a rough draft and then ask Claude for improvement suggestions. I will expand this collaboration to other intelligences going forward, including open source models such as Llama and DeepSeek. I will also explore other moda...

Web3/Crypto: Why Bother?
One thing that keeps surprising me is how quite a few people see absolutely nothing redeeming in web3 (née crypto). Maybe this is their genuine belief. Maybe it is a reaction to the extreme boosterism of some proponents who present web3 as bringing about a libertarian nirvana. From early on I have tried to provide a more rounded perspective, pointing to both the good and the bad that can come from it as in my talks at the Blockstack Summits. Today, however, I want to attempt to provide a coge...

If I meet with someone I generally google them beforehand. I assume others do the same with me. I believe this will be the norm for pretty much anyone soon if it is not already. I am therefore surprised to see how many people are not in control of their online persona. The only information that google turns up is what others have written about them. That may well include quotes take out of context, out-of-date company affiliations or even negative comments by others. Letting others define you online like that is dangerous and a missed opportunity. Hosting is so cheap these days or even free if you use a blogging platform such as Tumblr that there is really no excuse for not taking control of your own identity. One of the first things anyone googling you should find is a page that you control. Of course that is a lot easier done with a fairly distinctive name (that is not shared by a celebrity). But even if your name is Will Smith and you are not THE Will Smith you should control your persona and think of which other words folks are likely to use when googling you.
