# Thinking About a New Laptop

My trusty [Panasonic CF-W2](http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/panasonic-toughbook-cf-w2/4505-3121_7-30525272.html) is now 5 years old and I am worried that the disk will give out any day (backing up frequently).  I tend to buy computers a bit ahead of the curve – even though that means paying up a bit – and then keep them until they start to fall apart.  My next machine will have a solid state drive for sure.  Finally no more moving parts and hopefully no more disk failures.  I am seriously considering switching to a Mac now that there is [finally a lightweight machine](http://arstechnica.com/reviews/hardware/macbook-air-ssd-review.ars).  I wish that Panasonic would offer the otherwise [insanely awesome CF-W7](http://catalog2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ModelDetail?storeId=11201&catalogId=13051&itemId=202167&catGroupId=36001&surfModel=Toughbook-W7&displayTab=O) with a SSD.  I will also investigate the [Lenovo X300](http://gizmodo.com/346797/ultralight-lenovo-x300-series-thinkpad-leaked).
