# What a Week!

Periodically, I find that a week comes along in which a ton of important stuff on and for the web comes to a boil all at once.  This is one of those weeks.  Here are just some of the things that I am looking at

* The Release of [Office 2010](http://www.microsoft.com/Presspass/press/2010/may10/05-12Office2010AvailablePR.mspx) and the [fight](http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/05/12/office-2010-a-tale-of-decadence-and-hand-to-hand-combat/) between hybrid mode (desktop + web) versus online only

* Facebook’s extraordinarily [complex privacy settings](http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2010/05/12/business/facebook-privacy.html) and its [all-hands meeting](http://www.allfacebook.com/2010/05/facebook-calls-all-hands-meeting-on-privacy/) to address the issue at the same time as the small alternative [Diaspora](http://www.joindiaspora.com) project gets [big time press](http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/12/nyregion/12about.html?src=me&ref=general) and becomes a [blow-out success](http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/196017994/diaspora-the-personally-controlled-do-it-all-distr) on Kickstarter

* [HTC sues Apple over patent infringement](http://www.htc.com/www/press.aspx?id=129616&lang=1033) as a counter-suit to Apple’s suit against HTC, which both add to the ongoing patent suits between Apple and Nokia

It is enough to make one’s head explode just trying to think about where all of this is headed.  And if you need some further food for thought, head over and look at [Terence Kawaja’s excellent presentation](http://www.slideshare.net/tkawaja/terence-kawajas-iab-networks-and-exchanges-keynote) on the [complexity](http://continuations.com/post/110972617/it-is-too-complicated-pub-ad-tech) of the online advertising market.
