I am about to do something I haven’t done since becoming “hyper connected” - I am about to go off the grid. I will be traveling to a region sufficiently remote not to have cell phone coverage and there will be no wifi either. I am both excited and a bit nervous about this prospect. The excitement part comes from anticipating that I might relax more, have more time to think without interruption, more time for the people around me, etc. The nervousness arises from having a ton of things going o...

I will be taking most of the rest of August off from writing daily blog posts. I am largely doing this because I will also be unplugging from the constant information drip. This is the information equivalent of a purge diet. My theory is that we are mal-adapted to the supersaturated information environment we are in now. Our brains evolved in a setting that had much less information in it but what bits of information it had were super important as they often determined life or death. With sma...

In the middle of 2010 we started to seriously consider moving back to New York City. At the time one of the considerations was that it would be possible to experiment with homeschooling the kids. I am excited to report that we are doing both. We have a place in Chelsea that is a short walk from the Union Square Ventures office and almost as importantly around the corner from Murray’s Bagels.
